In Montana, a sobriety program has been so successful in a couple counties that it may go statewide. The program is designed to hold repeat drunk driving offenders accountable.

HELENA – A pilot program to hold repeat drunk driving offenders more accountable has received outstanding results, according to law enforcement officials.

The 24/7 Sobriety Program boasts a 99.9 percent success rate in Lewis and Clark County. The pilot program began in May, and since then about 5,000 breath tests have been conducted with just 22 of those failing. A total of 26 people have completed the program so far.

In the program, those arrested for a second or subsequent DUI who post bond are required to submit a breath test twice a day, every day, once in the morning and once at night. If an offender fails a breath test or does not show up for a test, the offender’s bond is immediately revoked and he or she is taken directly to jail. A man in Florida is suing General Motors saying that the car was responsible for the death of his wife. She was killed when her SUV went over a bridge from an accident with a drunk driver.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The husband of a woman killed when her SUV plunged off the Buckman Bridge earlier this year is suing General Motors, claiming the company is to blame for her death.

Sasha Pringle, who pleaded guilty to DUI manslaughter after causing the crash that killed 41-year-old Luma Kajy in February, was sentenced last month to 30 years in prison.

Kajy’s 2003 GMC Yukon lost control on the bridge and went over the side into the St. Johns River.

While Kajy’s husband, Paul Kajy, said that Pringle caused the accident, he believes it was actually Kajy’s car that killed her.

“I bought a Yukon. I thought a big, nice vehicle would be safe for my family and safe for her to drive,” he said.
